Vehicle Movement Analysis and Insight Generation in a College Campus using Edge AI

Project Overview

As part of the Intel® Unnati Industrial Training 2024, a team of students from Coimbatore Institute of Technology—Sabarivasan R T, Edwin Nova, Karthik Venkatesh T, and Sanjay V—successfully completed a project on "Vehicle Movement Analysis and Insight Generation in a College Campus using Edge AI."

Mentorship

Guided by Dr. M. Poongothai, Professor, ECE, CIT, the team explored cutting-edge technologies, gaining hands-on experience in:

  • Machine Learning Models
  • Optical Character Recognition (OCR)
  • Edge AI for Real-time Analysis

Project Highlights

  • Analyzed vehicle movement patterns within the campus
  • Developed an AI-driven solution for improved traffic management
  • Integrated Edge AI and OCR for efficient data processing

Recognition

The project was successfully completed during the Intel Pvt Ltd training period (May – July 2024) and received official certification. This achievement reflects the team's dedication to applying advanced AI technologies to real-world challenges.

A Low-Cost System to Detect Insects in Mangoes

A team of III-year ECE students—Sanjay V, Dinesh K, Karthick Venkatesh T, and Dharun Kumar A, under the guidance of Dr. M. Poongothai, Professor—successfully developed a project titled “A Low-Cost System to Detect Insects in Mangoes.”

This innovative project was recognized as a Semi-Finalist in the prestigious AICTE Inventors Challenge 2023, organized by ARM India and STMicroelectronics in collaboration with the G20 forum. Competing against 1,400 teams from across India, the project was shortlisted among the top 40 teams for the Grand Finale, held at Noida Institute of Engineering and Technology, Greater Noida, Delhi, on 20th November 2023.
